The St Andrew's cross, also called Saltire, is Scotland's national flag, thought to be the oldest in Europe and the commonwealth. It originated in a battle believed to have been fought in 832 AD at Athelstaneford, East Lothian.

The Prince Charlie is traditionally worn with an 8 yard kilt in any tartan, off-white socks, and ghillie brogues. It is properly worn with a Full Dress Sporran. To complete the look a black bow tie should be worn, though today another colour may be chosen. Most people do not wear a belt with the Prince Charlie, as the buckle can cause the waistcoat to lie badly.
